THE HISTORY

The “masi” are very common in the Trentino region and the Vallarom farm is a perfect example. The “maso” (from the latin word “mansus magione”, indicates one or more dwellings surrounded by fields or simply by the woods), is in fact enclosed by the vineyards and, on its higher side, by the woods. The first information about this dwelling, which is just outside Borghetto in the municipality of Avio, traces back to the end of the 15th century, when it was quoted in a document belonging to the Castelbarco family, as being part of six other “masi” built to alert the Sabbionara’s castle of the advance of the enemy.
This “maso” was bought by the Scienza family in 1963, more precisely by Ezio Scienza and his wife Giuseppina, who, step by step, restored it and planted the first rootlets.
As time went by, their son Renato, an highly regarded neuro-surgeon with a strong passion for wine and the countryside, the other son Attilio, a famous agronomist and their nephews have dedicated themselves to the newly born vineyard with a lot of passion and devotion until they produced exactly the wine they had in mind. They could achieve this thanks to the favourable grape growing conditions such as the soil and the climate.
In fact the vineyard is situated on a alluvial cone of limestone and on a rare Noric moraine: the location, the cultivation of the most appropriated vine, the monitoring of the yield, the quality of the grapes and their passion, are all elements that allowed the Scienza family to harvest their best fruits.
